As part of the Letňanská lentilka project, traffic in the housing estate will also change significantly. New parking spaces have been added for drivers and road surfaces have changed. Some crossings have been modified to protect pedestrians. Traffic calming is achieved by retarders and other deceleration elements. The Lentilek housing estate is now ZONE 30. What does this mean for drivers?
Zone 30, like the residential zone, provides greater safety for pedestrians and cyclists. It is usually introduced in residential areas of municipalities and the goal is to calm traffic as much as possible where cars, pedestrians and cyclists constantly meet. While the calming of roads with a predominant traffic function aims mainly at speed control, the general calming of zones also seeks to reduce the intensity of motorized traffic – either by transferring part of the traffic to other roads or by reducing the total volume of car traffic in the area.
The basic parameters of Zone 30 are:
- Top speed 30 km / h
- Parking – anywhere at the edge of the road, if there are no local restrictions
- Driving priority – it is recommended to introduce the right-hand priority across the right
- Pedestrians can cross anywhere
- Cyclists are led together with cars on the road
Pedestrians are very vulnerable participants in traffic. Children and the elderly are among the most vulnerable. It is therefore necessary to provide pedestrians with a safe and comfortable traffic environment. Due to the nature of Zones 30, it is not necessary to set up pedestrian crossings within these zones and mark them with vertical and horizontal traffic signs. Pedestrians are allowed to cross virtually anywhere.
Zone 30 provides area support for bicycle traffic. Due to the maximum permitted speed of 30 km / h, it is not recommended to segregate bicycle traffic from motor traffic in Zones 30. Mixed traffic on the road without setting up a separate cycling infrastructure is recommended.
Individual car transport
At the entrance to Zone 30, the driver should receive clear information about the traffic regime that awaits him within the zone. The creation of a traffic environment should motivate driving at a maximum speed of 30 km / h and stimulate you to drive responsibly. Calming measures do not need to be marked with vertical traffic signs, as these measures are common and common in Zones 30 and must be taken into account automatically by the driver.
