When you walk around Letňany, you will come across a large number of corners near houses, bollards, fences, baskets and signs fed by dogs. This makes our district no different from other parts of Prague. In the last few years we have opened 3 dog meadows, but of course no pet can wait to empty there. Dog urinals can be a solution. Do you think they will work? Where should we place them?
The dog urinal defines for dogs a place where peeing is suitable, and by the fact that urine remains inside the urinal, this place is interesting enough for dogs for everyday use. The body of the urinal is a hollow wooden, plastic, stainless steel tube with holes. The urinal can also be made of concrete with various surface finishes. The holes allow urine to pass in, where it is trapped in the tank. Excess urine is drained from the urinal body by overflow and freely seeps into the soil or is drained into the sewer. This ensures that the odor trail remains inside even in the rain and does not wash off. The dog urinal is finished with a lid at the top.
The urinal should not increase the characteristic odor of dog urine in a given place. The system is designed so that there is always urine left in the tank, which will always entice dogs to perform their needs in this particular place. Urinals can be easily washed and therefore the overall maintenance is much easier than changing a piece of wet plaster on the house. The system also requires some discipline from dog owners. If necessary, they should point the dog at the urinal.
In Letňany we will try to place several dog toilets for a test and see what the result will be. Do you think dog urinals will work? Where would you recommend them?
